The daily grind in the lifeguard tower includes daring rescues as well as covert investigations.  Lifeguards are trained to scan quickly through large crowds looking for potential problems.  

In this video you will see how hard it is from the tower to spot a thief.  When they find him they react just as quickly as they would if it was a distressed swimmer.
